Over 8 lakh people applied to the IAS test in 2018, held across the country for approximately 750 vacancies. Sources claim that Srushti Dashmukh placed first among 182 women who took the exam and 5th overall (All India Rank – AIR 5). She has a unique strategy to achieve success.

Srushti Jayant Deshmukh is a highly-motivated student. She was a student at Carmel Convent School in BHEL, Bhopal and received a 93.4 per cent on her 12th board exam.

She received a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Laxmi Narayan College of Technology, Bhopal (2014-2018).

Age

Srushti, a 23-year-old from Bhopal’s Kasturba Nagar (Madhya Pradesh), achieved this feat at just 23 years old. She was born in 1995.

Music is her main hobby. She practices yoga and meditation every single day.

She attended Carmel Convent, BHEL in Bhopal. She was a hardworking, good student. She achieved a CGPA of 8.

She scored 93.4% on her 12th board exam.

Srushti could not get admission to the IITs as she had hoped. She decided to pursue engineering (B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering) at a private college (Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya Bhopal).

Srushti participated in extracurricular and co-curricular activities throughout her time at school and college. She holds an NCC A Certificate. Apart from her academic studies, she participated in many cultural activities and debates.

Her College Life

Despite her best efforts, Srushti Deshmukh was not allowed to enter the IITs. She decided to go to The Lakshmi Narain College of Technology to study Chemical Engineering. (Affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya RGPV in Bhopal). Srushti was involved in extracurricular activities throughout her college and school years.

She is the bearer of an NCCA certificate. She was active in many cultural activities, including debates and being a part of scouts. After passing UPSC, she has attended many online meetings with LNCT student.

While studying engineering, she began studying for the UPSC exam several years ago. She only wanted to take the UPSC IAS exam once. In case she couldn’t obtain the IAS, she had engineering as an option.

Her Family

Jayant Deshmukh is Srushti’s father and works as an engineer in a private firm. Sunita Deshmukh is her mother and a kindergarten teacher. One sibling is her younger brother, who is enrolled in class seven.

She thanked her family, grandparents, teachers, mentors, and closest friends for their support in helping her to pass this exam.

Srushti Jayant is still single, but she was engaged to Dr Nagarjun B Gowda IAS. Both are part of IAS Batch 2019. They met at LBSNAA – Lal Bahadur Shastri Nation Academy of Administration.

UPSC has released the marks sheets of those who passed the IAS exam. Srushti Deshmukh got an astonishing total of 1068 marks from 2025. She was ranked fifth in the country.

Deshmukh selected Sociology as an option subject because she was familiar with the subject and because chemical engineering was not her choice at UPSC.

Strategie of Srushti

Srushti stated that consistency and testing series was her main strategies for success. In her words,

Consistency is the key to passing any exam. If you study for five hours one day, you must be able to do the same for the entire year. It is important to be self-disciplined and persevere in pursuing your goals until you reach them.

“Even though you might study for a long time in a single day, unless your take a test, it will not be possible to know where you stand.”

In interviews, she hasn’t mentioned her timetable, but she said she studied for 6-8 hours each day and relied on online resources for most of her learning.

Srushti’s Strategy on Study Materials

For her study materials, she relied heavily on online resources. The internet is a great boon. One does not need to travel to Delhi or any other place for coaching. These were not the only things she relied upon.

She studied hard for six to seven hours each day. She deactivated all her social media accounts to avoid distractions.

Srushti Jayant Deshmukh used NCERT books from class six to twelve Social Sciences as her primary study material. She also used other standard books on each topic. She also read magazines like Kurukshetra and Yojana.

She regularly read English daily newspapers, such as The Hindu and The Indian Express. Rajya Sabha TV and PIB were her online sources.

Srushti Jayant Deshmukh Current Position in Which State

The current posting of Srushti Jayant Deshmukh has been published by the Government of India Ministry of Personnel & Public Grievance & Pensions Department of Personnel & Training All India Services Division on 17 October 2019.

She is the first female civil servant in her family. As an insider, she was assigned to the IAS cadre based on Civil Services Examination (CSE – 2018) in her home state Madhya Pradesh.

She is currently posted in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district, India.

Plans for the Future

Srushti Jayant Deshmukh is a true believer in improving society and is focusing on the education and empowerment of women in India.

Since childhood, she had a dream to become an IAS officer one day. She knew she had to be a part of the country’s administrative system. She would assist young girls forced into child marriage if she did so.

She wanted to help them study, get a job and live a full life.

Srushti Deshmukh has taken on a new role in the lead-up to the 2019 general elections. The Bhopal district electoral office asked Srushti Deshmukh to inspire first-time female voters and encourage them to vote at the next election.

Deshmukh is now a symbol to encourage young people to exercise their rights to vote under the Election Commission’s Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation strategy (SVEEP).
