In tropical countries like the Philippines, the market is inundated with all kinds of whitening beauty products. The thing about this whole “whitening” propaganda is that most of these products never work for dark complexion despite the massive campaign invoked by naturally fair-skinned celebrities that brown-skinned women glorify on the boob tube.
This “whitening” agenda only fattens the pockets of the business sector while low class women become vagrant guinea pigs as they inadvertently succumb to each and every whitening product they could avail without learning first how to read through labels and the list of ingredients.
Unfortunately, it’s even more of a travesty that these women are only concise with the color of the facial surface leaving out the rest of their skin looking dull and disoriented. You might be one of the victims of deceptive marketing if you are indeed guilty of this ironic behavior that has become a “culture” thing more than just a fad that comes and goes.
It’s common sense to not fall for this massive campaign if you know for yourself that you were born with either brown or a darker skin tone. You ask other women in the know, they for sure would confess that the best way to be beautiful and looking gorgeous is not by having a chemical-laden luminous skin let alone an uneven skin tone.
You’re definitely better off with being tanned all over than being spotty like a Dalmatian because of your glowing pinky face with the rest of your extremities looking shady as if you haven’t sloughed off enough the dead cells, dirt, oil, and grime that you’ve accumulated for years. Interestingly, these products only work temporarily, and sometimes you may not be even aware of that the “whitening” effect is just all in your head, like you have just taken a placebo pill that does nothing literally. But since you were told that the product is going to work for you, like you were pre-programmed to get the result you want, you nevertheless ended up wasting your hard-earned bucks.
Try to go through the list of ingredients of each brand and you will find out that most of them contain the same highfalutin clinical terms for ingredients you never know could actually do more harm than benefits for your health. It’s a rule of thumb and it’s safe to say that anything you can’t ingest is probably something you can’t apply on the surface. Why? It is because everything you put on externally gets absorbed through the pores, and this in turn travels to the inside of your body and gets into your bloodstream. Foreign bodies and chemicals will only bring havoc to your body cells and eventually disrupt the normal function of your immune system.
Some common carcinogenic components of whitening products that you should be wary of include paraben (reported to be carcinogenic), sodium lauryl sulfate (as preservative), mercury and alcohol variants (can leech magnesium). These among others pose hazards to your health in the long run if you continually patronize all the products that contain them. Regardless of how much natural extracts from fruits or vegetables and mineral and vitamin fortifications are added into a soap or lotion, as long as these notorious chemicals are seen on the label, you better think twice.
Get your facts straight before getting mislead. Now you know that these store-bought whitening creams and whatnot do not really work to whiten your skin, you can now move on to the next contention.
So, how can you illuminate your skin specifically targeting your sun-exposed face, constantly rubbed elbows, and hidden armpits and inner thighs? It’s easy but you may need a whole lot of patience to see any significant effect. Nothing works overnight, and any commercial product that says otherwise is most likely trying to poke holes in your pocket.
First off, you need to suffice your diet with all the needed beauty nutrients. Alkaline minerals like magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper, zinc and calcium should be well balanced. You can get them just by eating alkaline foods such as the great dark green leafy veggies and less acidic fruits such as apples and overripe bananas.
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that really works from the inside to detoxify your cells and induce cell regeneration when your immune system is under attack by infections. This is the reason why drinking raw citrus juice alone heals fever in less than 24 hours. Detoxifying your body paves the way to an improved complexion. Supplementation with non-acidic form of Vitamin C is a good alternative if you can’t handle the acrid taste of fresh citrus juices incorporated in your daily diet. But just so you know, lemon and lime may taste acidic but are actually alkaline (the only alkalines among all fruits).
There is also what they call”glutathione”, which is already known in the medical field as the master antioxidant and a cure for cancer. One of its side effects is a glowing and lighter skin. A series of glutathione injections clinically administered is highly effective but may be too expensive. But need not worry as there are pills (glutathione in reduced form) readily available, however, they take much longer before you can see the difference.
Some experts argued that the ingestion of glutathione is not effective as the substance gets destroyed in the gut. But if you go over the ingredients list, Vitamin C alongside the glutathione precursor N-acetyl-cysteine is included. It could very well be concurred that this “glutathione in pills” is nothing but plain overhyped propaganda for the business sector to milk the vain public. It also proves that it’s much better, safer, and healthier to get as much Vitamin C as needed mainly by dieting. Glutathione precursors such as cysteine and methionine are abundant in most fruits such as watermelons and pineapples. How can you be broke and be vainly desperate when foods are already there in their purest and most organic form and made available by nature to prettify humans?
After you have worked out your “detoxifying” diet, you can now move on to some superficial remedies. Your internal system needs painstaking nourishment, but be delighted to know that your exposed skin can also benefit from using some of your cupboard essentials.
For one, raw apple cider vinegar (with the mother) is rich in enzymes and potassium that they work to lighten your skin instantly. You can apply the vinegar for face by swabbing with a cotton ball and you can also bathe in it. While it balances the pH level of your skin, it’s also a good balsamic vinegar substitute to toss your salads with.
Turmeric powder dissolved in milk (turmeric is oil-soluble) is also a good remedy for uneven skin tone. Steam your face and body, or get a warm soak in your tub before applying the yellowish paste anywhere or all over as a body mask. Leave it for at least 30 minutes and wash away. This spice is famous in Indian cuisine but can be found anywhere in the world.
Hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) is safe enough to be applied directly on skin to heal acnes and dark blotches. This solution is strictly for external use only.
Caveat: Peroxide must be sparingly used for discolored face, underarm, and groin but may be regularly used in small amount as a topical agent for dark elbows and knees.
Finally, the best advice there is for anyone craving a fair complexion must heed the blatant darkening effect of the sun. You may need to scrub your skin vigorously during shower to get rid of the dead cells, oil, and dirt to achieve that fresh, clean, and polished overall façade you’ve always wanted, but once you get exploited by the sun’s harmful rays that usually strike between the hours of 10A.M. and 4P.M., you make yourself prone to more damage than what any product in the world promises to bring you whatever result. Prolonged sun exposure is a usual haphazard behavior that seems to not bother the generality of women
